Partition type set to none

#1 Post by c0mputerking »

Ok i have a bit of a complicated setup for the partition in question using software raid 5 and lvm on debian squeeze to host a bunch of virtual machines. Something went wrong the other day and the hypervisor system froze with a bunch of /proc/xxx hung for xxx seconds forcing me to do a hard reset. The system came back up but went into maintance mode and told me to fsck I used this command "fsck -y /dev/mapper/vg1-root" which took hours and corrected lots of errors. I rebooted and again forced into maintance mode but now when i do a fsck on the disk it tells me this
superblock

so i tried this
backup superblock

of corse this did not work so i broke out systemrescuecd and ran testdisk 6.13 did the normal way INTEL type partion and it finds a bunch of partitions none of them right and i cannot (p) list on any of them. I could go on and on about the stuff i have tried the last couple of days, tring to recover using backup superblocks including setting the backup superblock to 0 and 4096 but lets cut to the chase.

I can find the correct partion if i set the partition type to NONE and i can list my files too which is relief

I found this similar post (see below)which gives me hope as i can even see my files with p however it seems a bit compex to go it alone hoping for some guidace here.

http://forum.cgsecurity.org/phpBB3/3tb- ... e&start=20

PS i can see my files when debian boot to maintiance mode and even mounts /dev/mapper/vg1-root but only int read only i think

Thank you in advance for your help

If you use partition table type None, you'll not able to write any partition table because you've chosen None.
Please copy and paste the content of your testdisk.log or upload a screen.
I'd need infos from Analyse (your current partition table) and your found partition, where you can list your files from.
Might be possible to change geometry, so that your partition will be found.

Ok i attached the testdisk log file sorry i tried to attach it last post to but i guess it didnt work cause it was too large sorry. This time i did not let the deep scan run to completion as it makes the logfile to large to attach and it just finds a whole bunch of wrong partitions. Also below is a screen shot not much to go on let me know if you need help. Also thank you very much for your help

For determining your disk geometry, you should use partition table type intel.
If you confirm at analyse, please upload the info.
I'd need especially infos from disk, what's described there.
Also partition information are appreciated.
You can also copy and paste it from the testdisk.log in your post.

Crap i didnt get notification of your reply thought you forgot about me anyways partition is still broken so maybe you can still help me get it going? I think this is the infos you require testdisk.log of an intel type

Code: Select all

root % cat testdisk.log
