A bit lost!! Response somewhat cryptic to me.
CrystalDiskInfo can check smart parameters ---- Ok! can see what you are getting at: I should have mention that root (/) refers to the disk wit the Win O/S and usually a smaller disk than the Storage Disk, whc was implied.

Recovery - copyng to wrong destinaton disk?

4 TB disk recovery w/ ~ 2.5 TB of data: Win 10 / NTFS.
Disk initially unrecognized but eventually was. How ? unknown, Perhaps random chance.
Partition found - 3 or 4 day run; recovered files listed; all 'a' selected.
Shift to destination disk, but might have taped button twice (?), shift stopped at ...

But I do have one final question.

As mentioned earlier this was a boot drive in another laptop. The results of the 'Analysis' =>

I was just scared to do anything that was likely to corrupt the file recovery process. So I am just confirming this.

I Removed the disk from the failed platform and set it up as an external drive on another platform.
Disk is recognized in Windows Disk Management => Unallocated
