Thank you, recuperation, for persisting,
I will try to phrase things more clearly.

I intended to include 2 links. Somehow the first one got corrupted. I trust you mean the first one. It should read:

Re: Risk of data loss involved with TestDisk?
Thank you, recuperation, for your insights,
Given how and when my data loss occurred, I am convinced that I fell victim to this problem:

An Explanation For My Data Loss
I want to share this quickly. It is past my bedtime.
I think I see what caused my data loss. It started when I updated a 'dormant' copy of Windows 10 on a separate (usually disconnected) SDD. I'm still operating from a second SDD that is my Windows 7 system disk most of the time.

Re: Unable To Find *.xls as an Extension in qphotorec
Thank you for your reply. In it you say:
" you are in the wrong forum.
You selected a German user name."
Things are not always what they seem. German is my second language; American English is primary. My father came from Schwabenland, arriving in early September 1929. Mom's family arrived from ...

Re: Unable To Find *.xls as an Extension in qphotorec
Perhaps this belongs in one of the TestDisk forum branches. If so, I can create a new thread there.
I did get beyond the 'stuck at 25% problem' but find that many files I'd hoped to find were not found.
I finally managed to make time to run an overnight deep search with the partition type set at ...

Unable To Find *.xls as an Extension in qphotorec
Have I done something wrong?
I opened qphotorec.exe and began setting up a search of a 2 GB data disk.
My first try, using the default File Formats setting of all extensions, got stuck at 25%, same sector number at 2 hours and 5 hours of operation. The hard drive is in a BlacX external SATA box ...

Re: Space Conflict Between Partitions in TestDisk Analyze
I should have noted that this is not a Boot Disk. It is a simple Data Storage Disk.
Problems began when I updated a Windows 10 Professional installation and forgot to disconnect the Data Disk. The update process created a new folder and downloaded a large file to it:
F:\Windows10Upgrade\17134.112 ...

Space Conflict Between Partitions in TestDisk Analyze
I used PhotoRec and found many files I cannot otherwise access via Windows Explorer.
Does specifying all of the file types slows down the PhotoRec process?
If it does not, is it possible to organize the resulting list by file extension?
I tried using TestDisk>Analyze and ran into this problem ...

CHKDSK Repaired Logical Errors - Can TestDisk Restore This Disk
I am trying to find the most efficient way to recover a mixture of files that disappeared from a largely empty 2TB eSATA data disk when I ran updates on an installation of Win10. I don't plan on migrating to Win10 until later this year as support for Win7 ends.
