Re: Path: testdisk device (how can I workout how to use this for my PVR HDD?)
Please post your testdisk log file. PVRs might use encryption to prevent you from recovering your recordings.
Many thanks
My PVR does not encrypt its recordings.
On a working drive, I can download its recordings and play them on a PC.
And I can also edit them on the PVR or on the PC.
Does TD ...

Path: testdisk device (how can I workout how to use this for my PVR HDD?)
It states on this page: https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Step_By_Step
To repair a filesystem not listed by TestDisk, run testdisk device, i.e.
testdisk /dev/mapper/truecrypt0 or testdisk /dev/loop0 to repair the NTFS or FAT32 boot sector files from a TrueCrypt partition.

Re: How to ensure that you don't get an answer in this forum!
12. Avoid asking questions that could be solved by a minimum amount of research on your own. In this case one simple google request would have solved the question:

Re: How can I identify which drive is which?
Use the command prompt while being in the smartmontools folder .
If Windows 10 operates like Windows 7 you can key key in "cmd" into the box where you find the folder path.
You might possibly run this as an administrator.
Many thanks for the reply.

Re: How can I identify which drive is which?
You have to request the serial number for each of the drives in question.
Under Windows run smartmontools with the -i parameter:
smartctl -i /dev/sdX
Replace "X" by the drive letter in question.
Under Linux run
hdparm -i /dev/sdX
So I'm using W10, so where do I type in: smartctl -i /dev/sdX ...

Re: Failed to recover content from hard drive in PVR
I believe the OS uses FAT 24, possibly a non standard proprietary version of FAT, but I cant substantiate that because I cant read the drive.
What is your belief based upon?
I was told that it was FAT24 by someone who had this problem before, but I cant find any online evidence that ...

Re: Failed to recover content from hard drive in PVR
Please post new issues in separate threads so that other users have a chance to find the subject based on a good title!
Your drive from the PVR probably has a proprietary partition/file system layout and is most likely encrypted.
Neither Testdisk nor Photorec will help.
