I'll gladly add whatever additional information is needed - though I've apparently used up my attachment quota in this thread. Really don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a recovery ...

Yet more info - screencaps from CrystalDiskInfo and Restorer Ultimate - which found 146 NTFS partitions, each one a different size and in total far larger than the 1TB capacity of the disk. Also found 81 HFS+ partitions ???
