Ubuntu has gotten very slow. Is there anyway to tell it not to try to read a sector if its bad more than a few times? It takes days to weed thru a drive with 7000 bad sectors :roll: . With 4 trys a sector an IBM with 640k running at 10mhz could do it in 20 minutes :) but Ubuntu 20 :oops: takes days ...

I see what you mean about speeds. a 100meg drive would scan fast. But its a 500gb drive on a sata in a machine that passmarks at 1980.
