Always try to connect the disk with SATA, Testdisk works better than over USB connection.

Also, it is better to clone the disk to a image file and then working with the image file instead to clone it to another disk to avoid hardware issues with the copy.

By the way when conecting the usb externa drive to SATA instead I was able to find the partition and list the files in test disk. But before trying to write the partition I cloned the disk (dd command) tand I am playing with a clone one.
