Re: Using photorec on Mac HFS RAID

By default, PhotoRec should discard invalid jpg files.
If the filesystem was on a Raid0, it's far better to run PhotoRec against the Raid0 than against one of the disk (or even the 2 disks one by one).

Re: how do i recover files that have been partitioned off?

If TestDisk after Deeper Search deosn't find your partition, it's still possible to use PhotoRec to recover some files using [Whole Disk]. If most files are not recovered, enable the Expert mode in Options, use a blocksize of 512 bytes when asked, use the default options otherwise.

TestDisk doesn't know how to rewrite the XBOX partition table.
The disk may have been configured with a PC Intel or EFI GPT partition table.

Re: Skip to sector

If the disk contains bad sectors, it's better to work on a clone, see ddrescue in https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf If the new disk doesn't have the same device name (ie. /dev/sdc instead of /dev/sdb), you can edit the photorec.ses file with a text editor (wordpad or notepadd++ under Windows, ...

Re: PhotoRec taking a long time

It's better to use ddrescue than dd to create an image of a disk. By default dd stops at the first bad sector. If the disk was containing bad sectors, it's better to work on the disk image than from the source disk. The current location will be listed at the end of the second line. Remove all old se...
