Re: I think I screwed up

When testdisk lists the partition, you can try 'p' to list the files. This may help to recover the correct partitions. If nothing works, you can always use latest PhotoRec 7.1-WIP on whole disk. If you recover few valid files, as you have move/merge/... the partitions, you may have to enable the exp...

Re: TestDisk time

You wrote My recovery folder (the copy destination) shows 49GB of data and 1300 files, but nothing is actually in it. There is probably a subfolder named "Album 1". TestDisk shows a very high number of failed copies, I don't know why. It may be faster to run PhotoRec but it doesn't recover the origi...

Re: My Story (Or, Trying to Save a Data Drive Borked by Linux! Help, Please1)

It's usually a bad idea to boot from the same disk you are trying to repair. It's better to boot from another disk or even an USB key. You can search for the NTFS partition using TestDisk. Read https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf chapter "Recovering deleted partition using TestDisk". Note that L...

Re: Recovering DOS Executables

The "MZ" signature alone generates too many false positives. It's why only Win PE or DOS with COFF extension are recovered by PhotoRec.
If you really want those files, create a photorec.sig file with

Code: Select all

exe 0 "MZ"

Re: Testdisk doesn't see the files, but Active File Recovery does

Is this partition missing from the actual partition table ?
Only if it is the case, choose to rewrite the partition table.
To repair the filesystem, you can try the various things listed in https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf

As your computer is running Windows XP (not supported anymore by Microsoft since January 2016), use TestDisk 7.0

Re: HDD Messed Up. But Shows Up w Letter In Disk Mgmt

Try to clone the disk to a new empty one using ddrescue.
Read https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf there are a chapter about creating a Linux LIve USB and another about ddrescue usage.

Re: Trying to recover files from a corrupt Flashdrive

Run "cmd" (right click run as administrator) and "chkdsk /f d:" (replace d: by the correct drive letter).
Does it solve the problem ? If it's not the case, please copy/paste the error message.

Utilisez de préférence photorec_win sauf si l'interface texte vous rebute.
