thanks, never knew that about extending the window size. Would .odt files that have never been compressed be found by that "zip archive" selection? if not, what other file types should I check off to find the .odt files?

I see in file options where file type can be selected, and I've selected .doc, but as I said above I do not see .odt. When you say some file types are summarized to one file type family, because it is not possible to enlarge the width of a dos box on windows 7 and two of the selections containing ...

For whatever reason, (maybe the drive has an intermittent problem?) I tried a 4th time and test disk and then photorec both worked this time, but I was hoping to recover ONLY .doc and .odt files. I see the .doc listed there in file types but am unable to enlarge the dos box on my win7 machine to see ...
