Hi,
I opened image.dd using testdisk:
Partition table type: None
Advanced
Boot
Rebuild BS
List
'Can't open filesystem. Filesystem seems damaged'
Alternatively if i select 'Repair MFT' instead of 'Rebuild BS', it gives me a 'MFT and MFT mirror are bad. Failed to repair them' message.
Any idea ...

Re: Rebuild BS - faster using sata than usb?
Hi,
Before I try using testdisk one last time, im just curious if the 'create image' function in testdisk is similar to that achieved by cloning the partition using Knoppix. If they are essentially the same, then there's no point for me to try cloning the partition using Knoppix if testdisk fails ...

Re: Rebuild BS - faster using sata than usb?
Hi Fiona,
Is cloning the only way to recover all the data files in the partition? I'm trying to make enough space available in my 500gb external harddisk to accommodate the image file.
I tried chkdsk but it failed at the first stage with multiple errors 'file record segment unreadable'.
Shin

Anyway after letting the wd blue hdd take a break, i managed to run it on the portable version of Testdisk on my desktop. This time round, the statuses of both the boot sector and the backup boot sector were ok. However when i tried to list the ...

Re: Rebuild BS - faster using sata than usb?
Hi Fiona,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
Testdisk is moving, albeit very very slowly...
The WD blue is my lappie's hdd which was supposed to have 2 partitions, but after repeated attempts to re-install Window 7 on it, now has 4 partitions. The partition that I am trying to recover is the partition ...

Hi,
I have been trying to recover my files from one of my partitions (~350gb) in my 2.5 inch WD blue 750gb hdd but testdisk gave me the 'damaged filesystem' error. Since then (4 days ago) I have been trying to rebuild the boot sector after testdisk gave me the 'boot sector status: bad' and 'backup ...
