Turns out the client's most recent backup was acceptable. So, the original problem is resolved.
I was able to get a sample file from Sage Peachtree Complete Accounting 2012. The data files look similar to the Sage 50 program I was working with earlier; it's just an older version.

I will try to get you some Sage 50 company files. I do not use the program myself, so it could go a while.
Unlike Intuit's QuickBooks, which has a single file for company data, Sage 50 has a folder containing several dozen files that make up the company data.

Recovering Sage 50 Accounting files
One of my clients has a failing hard drive that contains data files from Sage 50 Accounting (formerly Peachtree.) And, no recent backups. I used DDRESCUE to get some of the data off the drive; now I want to use PhotoRec to find the Sage 50 files. I am not sure what file types to search for. Although ...
