My computer is always plugged in so it has no energy saving things on at all, including turning off USBs, etc. I found the drive is having a problem so replaced it.

I don't know why but TestDisk didn't work for me the first few times and then it did.

I'm good now. The files I really needed I mostly recovered but the drive kept shutting down so I didn't get them all but a lot of them.

It's a USB drive. Had to keep turning it off then on again to keep it ...
