Update:
It resets around sector 1,920,000,000/1,953,525,168 all the way back to about sector 1,100,000,000. Elapsed time is 27h 10m. Is a sector corrupted?

awesome, thanks; It was unable to write any partition but one, and the one it could write was empty. moving on to photorec.

PhotoRec is running but is now stuck on the last 600 million sectors and keeps looping. It has been going for 19 hours and 2 minutes on a 1tb drive. Should I stop it or ...
