Re: New data disappeared without overwriting old data.

That is quite a document. I don't have time to read it right now because I need to get to work. I will look at it later. Are you suggesting that I clone a RAW drive and recover from that?

I had to stop the scan of the H: drive. After 48 hours it was only 23% complete and my 500GB D: drive filled up ...

New data disappeared without overwriting old data.

I have a 2 TB Seagate External drive that I use for backing up images of two computers using Acronis True Image. At one time recently, it became completely full and unusable. I used TestDisk to get some files off of it and reformatted it. I started using it again and limited the number of backup ...

Re: TestDisk cannot find the partition that became unallocated

Okay, thanks. I'll call that Plan B.

I'm still hoping to find something that will just get the partition back in one piece.

Re: TestDisk cannot find the partition that became unallocated

How does that get my data back? How can I get that data back if TestDisk can't find it?

TestDisk cannot find the partition that became unallocated

I had a hard disk partitioned into C:, D:, and E:. I hadn't used E: in a while so I didn't notice it missing until I tried to save something to it yesterday.

It is 763.04 GB and is not listed as Unallocated.

I ran TestDisk in Deeper Search and it still finds nothing. I have (or had) dozens of ...

Re: Partition Table keeps becoming unbootable

Since you wouldn't answer I had to chance it. I'll post again if the problem remains. I can't figure out why you wouldn't answer me.

Re: Partition Table keeps becoming unbootable

Fiona, it's been two weeks since I asked the question. Given what I wrote in my previous post, do you still think it's worth the risk to attempt the /fixmbr you suggested on that site?

Re: Partition Table keeps becoming unbootable

TestDisk sets the first partition as bootable automatically.
If it's wrong you have to change it manually.
So there is nothing to do.
I did not know that. Thank you.
Might be possible that your MBR is slightly messed up and can cause such behavior as you explained here:
A while ago, I had a hard ...

Re: Partition Table keeps becoming unbootable

During one of the non-boots, I went into the command prompt again to run Testdisk. The initial result before analyzing the disk shows the wrong drive as bootable, but also shows 5 partitions. The wrong bootable partition, the boot as primary, the third partition as primary, a fourth partition as ...

Re: Partition Table keeps becoming unbootable

Why can't I create a fourth primary partition?
What is this mystery LBA partition?
How can I determine what keeps damaging the partition after Windows and I keep repairing it.
1-Creating a fourth primary partition, you can use diskpart.
2-LBA is Logical Block Addressing and also important to ...
