I can't create a new log file

#1 Post by tinker123 »

TestDisk 7.1
Mint Linux 20.0

I used TestDisk to successfully recover all but a few dozen files from a drive/disk image I made using this command:

testdisk OriginalWipdDrive.img

I was hoping to get a list of file names that could not be saved.

After I quit the program I did not see that in the testdisk.log in the directory where I executed the command.

I deleted the log, started TestDisk again, and retried on one file I knew the name of.

A new testdisk.log file was not created.

I noticed when I reran

testdisk OriginalWipdDrive.img

I could not get back to the screen where you can choose to create or append a log file.

I also noticed, thankfully, that TestDisk did not start analyzing all of the cylinders in OriginalWipdDrive.img ( 1T image, it took hours ). It had saved its work.

Is there any way I can create a new testdisk.log, retry the sub directories where files failed to copy, and get a list of the filenames that did not copy over?

I don't know. Please check your profile folder and the folder that containts the img-file.
Please check if writing rights available.
Maybe you could run your linux from a USB stick to see if that makes a difference.
