Recover Text file with .set extension

#1 Post by giannibrusati »

Hi,

I desperately need to recover a deleted settings file which is stored in my USB flash drive. It has a .set extension but these types of files are basically text files (they can be opened and viewed with notepad/textedit.

Other data recovery programs have found the file in the USB but it is corrupted (possibly fragmented).

Is there a way photorec can recover this text file even if it has a .set extension? It holds months of work....

Thanks

Gianni

Has the file a specific header, a text that is always present at the beginning ?
Otherwise PhotoRec may recover the file and save it with a txt extension.

Hi thanks for your response.

So I just tried it with just having photorec search for txt or tx* files and holy macaroni I've found it. Photorec saved it as a txt file with a different file name.

You have literally saved my bacon - and months of work! The file contains optimisation settings for an algorithm I'm working on.

I cannot thank you enough. Needless to say I will be donating.
