Wrong disk used in software raid. Can I recover data?

#1 Post by erkan »

Instead of using my two new drives for creating a software raid 1 (using mdadm), I have used one new and one my existing disk that has some important files on it. I have created the array everything is ok.
Once I tried to copy my data to new raid array, I realized that I added wrong disk to raid 1 array. (I'm am complete idiot, I admit)
Is it possible to recover data from my data disk (that is part of raid 1 mdadm array) using testdisk or photorec? I have tried testdisk wihout success and running photorec at the moment.
My main question is when I create the raid 1 array, it resyncs the drives. Is this process overwrites all the data present on the disk?
Is there any way to restore this data?
Thank you for your help.

If the Raid 1 re-synchronization is complete, you may have lost all your data, it depends if it has been from the new disk to the old or from the old disk to the new.
Let's wait for PhotoRec results...

Unfortunately, PhotoRec couldn't recover any file.
