Is this normal behaviour during Partition recovery?

#1 Post by je5u5 »

Dear all,
An external Seagate 4TB drive stopped working overnight, it would not show up in Explorer, but would show up in Device Manager and show us as unallocated in Disc Manager.
I started running testdisk on April 17th afternoon and, despite taking a while in every step, allowed me to select the drive, select the partition recovery option and start the search.
However, it's been stuck in "Try to locale partition" ever since.

Below you will find a screenshot:

Every now and then (generally 24h+) the log updates with some error messages, and always seems to end with an incomplete line.

I will copy the log below, ommiting parts of it as character limit does not allow me to paste the full thing.

Is this normal behaviour?

Does this mean that, during the times when the program is not registering errors it is working normally?

What do you recommend?

Thanks in advance for any help.

All read operation failed. There is an hardware problem, maybe a damaged head.
You should contact a data recovery company.
