Chkdsk failed erase several of my files

#1 Post by valtryek »

Hi

Sorry for my bad English

I ran CHKDSK but due to a power outage it was canceled. When the PC was turned on again, many of the files were deleted and others were corrupted with 0 KB.

I had planned to make a disk copy with Ddrescue and then try to recover data with testdisk.

But I am very inexperienced in linux, so I am afraid of losing all the data due to some mistake of mine.

I was wondering if you could help me a bit with my problem.

Thanks in advance!

If your drive has no physical errors and you use Testdisk only to extract files and folders from your drive you won't need a duplicated drive.

If you don't have linux experience buy two additional drives to play and test with them (they may even be used or refurbished) read articles, watch tutorials before touching your broken drive.
