I cant mount the partition (PhotoRec worked but i still need to mount it!)

#1 Post by TheCoffee »

I tried to plug an old Macbook drive via USB enclosure, at first it booted up and i can see the files but then suddenly it froze so i used Disk Utiliy and First Aid from my Macbook, after that i couldn't boot that drive never again...

So i used DDrescue and copied my HDD's image and used PhotoRec (It did really well. I got almost everything i think... but its a mess wrong filenames etc...)

So if i can use DDrescue and can get files with PhotoRec maybe i can also repair/mount the partition using Testdisc on .img file or something?

I need some help on this, just need instructions/guidance and i can post every .log file so we can fix it together. (And yes i checked testdisk.pdf but i got weird errors that i dont understand)

Thank you.

Try it out, post the log file and be precise when writing.

You will have to reboot for the change to take effect.

TestDisk exited normally.

Hopefully your image file contains a disc image and not a partition image - you did not tell.
Testdisk can not repair your HFS file system it can only make a lost HFS partition reappear.

Use third party software for a recovery of a HFS file system.

You did not get the message: Testdisk does not talk HFS, whether it's on a disc, a disc image or written on a wall. I don't speak Spanish. It does not make a difference in understanding if I try to read Spanish in a newspaper, a book or written on a wall.

Apps are for smart phones as far as I know. You do not use a smart phone for disc recovery. I don't have a Mac - I don't know - use Google!

Thats why i said "thought" lol, and it was just a "thought"

Yeah i know that, consider it as a typo lol. And i thought this forum can find a solution to my un-mountable HDD, but since i have a HFS, well that's my bad i guess... sorry to bother
