SSD system drive has disappeared

#1 Post by dchacon »

Hello, I'm trying to recover the partitions of an SSD which all of the sudden stoped from being recognized.
After running TestDisk I got the following message:
Disk /dev/sdb - 128 GB / 119 GiB - CHS 15566 255 63 The harddisk (128 GB / 119 GiB) seems too small! (< 129 GB / 120 GiB) Check the harddisk size: HD jumper settings, BIOS detection... The following partition can't be recovered: Partition Start End Size in sectors > MS Data 250068991 252088318 2019328 [ Continue ] NTFS, blocksize=4096, 1033 MB / 986 MiB

Should I continue? Or do I risk loosing something if I do choose continue?
I have searched for some answers in the forum but thus far i did not find something related to this specific messege.
Thank you for any help.
David

Your description is unclear to me as to what disappeared: Is it the device or the partition?

If your device disappears in your operating system you have a technical problem unless you cannot solve it by checking power and data cables.

This statement above does not apply to the case where you are missing a partition or a partition is indicated as RAW.
In this case the device is obviously there.

Please do me a favour and change the subject title accordingly if your device disappeared.

Thank you for awnering.
The issue was this:
The hard disk I am trying to save is the HD which has the OS and other partitions.
The PC wouldn't initialize Windows 10 all of the sudden and it gave a message that it could not find the hard drive.
I tried to get the files on it from another computer but this computer could not find the drive either.
Using the free version of EasyUS I reallized that the partitions were there but for some reason could not be read
This is when I turned to TestDisk.
I am trying to recover all the partitions from a drive that cannot be seen.

I clicked on continue following the previous message and this is what I got thus far:
Disk /dev/sdb - 128 GB / 119 GiB - CHS 15566 255 63 Partition Start End Size in sectors >P EFI System 2048 534527 532480 [EFI System Partition] [SYSTEM] D MS Data 567296 248049663 247482368 [Windows] D MS Data 246042625 248049664 2007040 D MS Data 248049664 250056703 2007040 [Windows RE tools] P MS Data 248049664 250068991 2019328 [Windows RE tools] Structure: Ok. Use Up/Down Arrow keys to select partition.
