Can't recover Partition "Disk seems too small"

#1 Post by Heartblood »

Hello,

I had a RAID 6 containing 10 disks each 2TB in size. Due to some hardware failure in a backpanel I lost the RAID 6 configuration. I managed to re-create the RAID 6 with the 10 disks, but my partition was lost. So I tried your tool and it found my partition, but said the disk seems to small and therefore the partition can't be recovered.

Code: Select all

No partition found or selected for recovery

The following partition can't be recovered:

     ext4 blocksize=4096 Large_file Sparse_SB Recover, 16 TB / 14 TiB
Right now I'm running a deep scan to see if other partitions are being found.

Is there anything I did wrong or can I do anything to change the size of my RAID 6 so that the partition fits? Do you need any more information? Help is much appreciated.

Here are some additional information.
  • the RAID is software RAID created by openmediavault
  • deep search has found the same partition various times with the same result: disk seems too small
Update:
  • I've added an extra disk to the array. It now consists of 11 disks
  • testdisk finds the partition and says it can be recovered
  • testdisk does not show any files, it says file system might be corrupt
Question: Is it safe to restore the partition? After restoring I might use chkdsk to correct the filesystem, right?

Unfortunately it did not work. I gave up and cleaned the RAID.
