ok, so i had a dual-boot system running windows vista and windows 8. i also had another two logical drives for setup files. All of this was on just one hdd. I created another partition using easeus partition manager for a windows xp installation. During installation it said that it had done some maintenance on drive C which is the main vista drive. After installation no grub menu showed and it booted into XP. Later i found out that the windows xp drive was now the boot drive but the vista drive was still the system drive. I tried using easybcd, fixboot and fixmbr but now i have found myself with a pc showing just one partition. I have ran testdisk deep scan and it has several partitions but i do not know how to recreate these partitions as it shows them as deleted and i see no option to easily recover them. Am i missing something and please help me

Perhaps you should try Supergrub 2 Disk

http://www.supergrubdisk.org/super-grub2-disk/

Their project web page claims that it does not mess your MBR up.

With enough RAM, it would be easier to run Virtual Box, using the newest OS, as the host.

Best of luck

Deeper Search displays often partition as D /deleted).
If they overlap, you'd be able to set partitions for revovery using the left or right arrow key.
At the left side, you can watch the status of your partirtion, either primary, active bootable and logical.
Also a description here;

Please note, it's not possible that multiple partitions using the same space.
If TestDisk find more partitions, you can check each partition and press p to have a try to list your data.
If your data are displayed, you can copy your data or set your partition direct for recovery.
