USB stick recovery

Hello,
I am not sure if I am posting in the correct forum, but I was wondering if somebody could help me recover my USB stick. I am using a MacBook Pro (Mac OS 10.6.8) and an 8 GB PNY USB stick. I unfortunately did not eject it properly after use - now, my computer does not recognize it anymore. I believe the stick was formatted in FAT (I used it in my MacBook as well as on Windows PCs), but I'm not completely certain.
