My seagate Barracude of 2TB has become a brick.

What did I do?

Removed the disk from a station that had windows 7 and sata connectors to a laptop with a sata to usb converter.

What did I already do to try to fix the problem?

1. started "Testdisk"
2. Ran Analyse

Code: Select all

Disk /dev/sdd - 2000 GB / 1863 GiB - CHS 30400 255 63, sector size=4096 - ST2000DM 001-9YN164, S/N:152D20337A0C
Disk \\.\PhysicalDrive3 - 2000 GB / 1863 GiB - CHS 30400 255 63, sector size=4096 - ST2000DM 001-9YN164, S/N:152D20337A0C
Drive E: - 2000 GB / 1863 GiB - CHS 30400 255 63, sector size=4096 - ST2000DM 001-9YN164, S/N:152D20337A0C
3. Found the partition, could do a list files.

Code: Select all

Analyse Drive E: - 2000 GB / 1863 GiB - CHS 30400 255 63
Geometry from i386 MBR: head=255 sector=63
check_part_i386 failed for partition type 07
Current partition structure:
Invalid NTFS or EXFAT boot
 1 P HPFS - NTFS 0 32 33 243201 45 44 3907024896
 1 P HPFS - NTFS 0 32 33 243201 45 44 3907024896
No partition is bootable
4. Changed the type from boot (*) to P (primary) since I never boot from this disk.
5. Wrote back the information to the partitioning table.
6. However that failed that with an "write error" but apparantly has written something.
7. When I now do the same.
8. Testdisk tells me the following:

Code: Select all

Disk /dev/sdd - 2000 GB / 1863 GiB - CHS 30400 255 63
Current partition structure:
Partition Start End Size in sectors

Warning: number of bytes per sector mismatches 512 (NTFS) != 4096 (HD)
 1 * HPFS - NTFS 0 4 5 30400 37 37 488378112 [New Volume]
I copied some files of the disk via testdisk and that works, my question is how to get windows to recognize the disc again without formatting.
