Hi Fiona,
ok, I understand.
one last chance... what do you think about to use Ubuntu to fix the NTFS filesystem damaged.
Is a valid option?

Might be an idea to test Ubuntu.
Please let me know if you get better results?
It's advisable not to change anything to your file system.
It can increase damage.
Ubuntu contains TestDisk too!
Otherwise try PhotoRec or another datarecovery software to recover data.
Then you can consider to have a try to repair your file system.
