Testdisk stalling

Hello - I've just about managed to make a bootable CD with only Testdisk on, in order to try and recover a suspected corrupted boot partition.
Testdisk lets me get as far as selecting the only hard drive available, a vague 'Disk 80' description but with the correct drive size displayed. On selecting 'Proceed', it does nothing more.
I can give more details about my drive and partitions if necessary, but would be grateful for any first thoughts?
