Deep scan questions....

#1 Post by zalloy »

Hi,

I've got a Cavalry 3TB external drive on a SATA port. The quick scan said that one partition couldn't be recovered, and offered to do a deep scan, which I started back on Sunday. I'm really hoping to be able to get back the data on the drive, so I don't really want to stop the scan.

Currently, nearly 4 days later, it's only on cylinder 2147/364800. How long is this deep scan going to take? I do understand that the larger the drive is, the longer it will take. However, I can't afford to be unable to boot into Windows for work next week, if the scan hasn't finished by Sunday night. I only got lucky that I didn't have to work this week, as I can't run the scan from Windows, and I can't run the apps I need for work in the Parted Magic shell.

Do you have any tips on how I might be able to recover the second partition quicker?

The scan is too slow, the disk probably contains bad sectors.
Try to clone the disk to a new empty one as described in http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/Damaged_Hard_Disk
