which type partition and which one should boot?

#1 Post by Cotutor »

Asus laptop
750gb sata
originally setup as GPT instead of MBR.
got infected, tried to view files in Win 7 using an external drop in bay.
initialized drive in win7, but DID NOT format.
used Test Disk and found partitions.
What I don't know is what type of partiions I should change them too in order to get them to boot.
TestDisk defaulted them to: (see attached screen shot)
MS Data [system]
MS Data [OS]
MS Data [Recovery]

I would truly like to be able to boot into the recovery partition and run restore on the system, there are programs that were purchased with the laptop that we don't have access to otherwise.

When trying to boot to hdd, we get system was unable to boot, run recovery from windows disk....
when trying to repair from win 7 disk (with or without sp1) we get error that the windows recovery doesn't match... unable to continue...

Would appreciate any and all help at this point.
