where is log file

I understand that there should be a log file in the testdisk folder. Is it possible that this is not created even when you select create new log file?
is there a command that i can enter before lauching to create a log file?

# testdisk log ddmmyytestdisk.log

??

testdisk.log file is created in the current working directory when you start TestDisk and choose "Create" or if you run "testdisk /log".

yes i am expecting to see that but why is it not there?

If TestDisk failed to create it, it display a warning. As you didn't report this warning message, the log file should be here...

Windows: if you did a link to start testdisk (or photorec) in a cmd.exe window, you have to check the working dir in the link properties. In my case it was %windir%. Log file will be there.
