Good day. Erhm, my 1TB Buffalo external hard disk suddenly stopped working. The laptop can detect it, but when I checked it with Disk Management it was "unallocated". So I tried out testdisk.
Analyze > Quick Search > Advanced Search gave me this:
What should I do next? I really don't want to lose all the contents of the external disk (which is approx. 900+ GB).
The Following Partitions can't be recovered.

Re: The Following Partitions can't be recovered.
Can you repeat your diagnose using testdisk 6.14 32bit?
In your testdisk folder you'll find a file called testdisk.log.
You can open it using a wordprocessor like wordpad and copy and paste the content of your testdisk.log.
Here is a step by step guide:

Thanks for the quick reply. Yep, I can re-analyze, give me just a little more time and I'd post the results here.

I've no idea?
Because this display is only a message that some partitions arte not recoverable, because they end after disk limit.
Please confirm with continue to get to your results.
Need another screen from your final results.

Re: The Following Partitions can't be recovered.
Ok, I redid the analysis. I'll try to post what I did step-by-step, to check if I missed anything.
I did Quick Search (I took the screenshot while the Quick Search was ongoing)
this is its result
I pressed Enter, and this is what happened
Not sure what to press (A, L, or Enter), I pressed Enter again, and this is what happened
I press Enter again, and after an overnight scan, this is the result
So I pressed Enter, this happened
I don't know if I should press A, L, or Enter, so I pressed Enter again because I might overwrite my ~1TB worth of data in the external hard disk. This happened.
Did I do anything wrong?

Re: The Following Partitions can't be recovered.
Nope, you didn't do anything wrong.
You have some read errors.
Perhaps some bad sectors?
It's displayed here:

And your logfile displays them also:
Please check the health status of your disk using crystaldiskinfo:
http://crystalmark.info/download/index-e.html
Please download the portable (zip) version.
The Installer version (exe) contains the adware open candy.
The portable version, you can unzip it and execute it directly.
On the upper left area you can watch the health status of your disk.
Clickin on it, provides more info.
Probably you'll need datarecovery software like PhotoRec.
Please let me know, what kind of filetypes (like jpg, mp3 etc..) you'd like to recover.

Re: The Following Partitions can't be recovered.
Hm, that's 900+GB's worth of movies, games, disc images, and music (in that order of priority for restoration). Thankfully I have a backup for my documents; thus they are of a lesser priority. Overall, that's quite a variety of file types in the disc.
Also, the external hard disk turns out to be still under warranty. Will crystaldiskinfo or testdisk invalidate my warranty? And will the guys over at Buffalo be able to restore all my data?
