Disk not listed

#1 Post by JJason4 »

Hi
I've got a WD Scorpio Blue 150 gb disk that turned RAW from NTFS on one of its drives. In using Test Disk, it doesn't list the disk but does list the 2 drives (F & G). Disk Management can see it but I have no Security Tab in Properties for the RAW drive G:
Analyse shows nothing but Read Error for drive G: and after scanning reports No Partition Selected.
Any ideas why or how to get Test Disk to "see" the disk? Any suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks

I've no idea why your disk doesn't appear in your disk selection?
Can you test testdisk 7.1WIP 32bit?
To work around your problem:
Can you run TestDisk, select your drive G: / partition table type None / Advanced / Boot and upload another photo?
Use the menu List to have a try to list your files.
Please let me know.

Did testdisk 7.1WIP list your disk?
Can you run RebuildBS?
As long as you don't use Write, nothing will be changed.
If it's successful and the menu List becomes available, you can try to list your files.

I apologize. No, it did not list the disk. The image in the earlier post only had to do with drive G:.
After running Rebuild BS this was the result.

I tried List and it reported "Can't open file system. File system seems damaged."
Any ideas?

Can you check your disk using crystaldiskinfo?
http://crystalmark.info/download/index-e.html
Please use the portable version, the installer (exe) contains the adware open candy.

Edit: Removed check of disk management console, because info are already available

I downloaded and ran both standard and ultimate versions of CrystalDiskInfo 6.5.2.
Both had same results. Auto Refresh set at 1 min. I set Advanced features to include;
Advanced Disk Search
ATA_PASS_Through
All USB/IEEE 1394 selected
Enabled ALL DISKS in Intel RAID (CSMI)
The only disk either located was my 1Tb C: drive, never the 150Gb drive that houses both F: and G:
Also, I can neither view/write to/delete from F: or G: nor can I format either drive using TestDisk or any other program.
I think it's dead, Jim.
Anything else you'd like me to try? I'm at a loss at this point.

Can you check your BIOS/UEFI on how is your disk listed there?
Also check the cable.

I failed to explain that the disk in question is external to my laptop by way of a USB enclosure. All cables and connections have been thoroughly checked and tested by way of using another disk drive I have. Since the disk in question is connected by USB, it doesn't appear in Bios. Could this be the reason TestDisk and ChrystalDiskInfo are not seeing the disk yet see the partitions?

Your USB-disk should be regognized by testdisk and crystaldiskinfo.
Also there is a 149.05 GB-disk listed in your disk management console.
Would it be possible that 149.05 is Gigabyte in binary and your disk has 160 GB?
Only the third partition appears as RAW (unformatted) and you shouldn't format it, to avoid overriding of your file system.
I've no idea why your disk is not listed?
Can you test it at another computer or connect your disk internally via sata?
It's only intended as a diagnose and you should avoid to modify something.
