In over my head! Hitachi 500GB Deskstar

#1 Post by pilotwerrie »

Good day all!

I have a Hitachi Deskstar drive I haven't used in a while and now I need some files on it.

When I plugged it in Windows (7) gave the error message: E:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted or unreadable. And it then asks me if I want to format ... Which I don't!

I googled a bit and found this software and forum! Youtube Tutorials were not very helpful either ...

However I am a bit unsure on what exactly I should do - I just feel a little out of my depth on this level of hardware technicality! And I certainly don't want to damage my drive any further!

I believe my problem is with the partition tables being damaged? correct?

How can I fix this? I also get an error message in Testdisk about cylinder and heads mismatch?? I attached a photo of drive showing info relating to it.

I can use some advice please ... I also dont know why it is listed as a seagate drive??
