Can data be restored if overwritten by a new OS?

#1 Post by iXLR8 »

Hello,

I have yet to attempt any procedures using the software other than to initially analyze the existing partition(s) which have overwritten the previous partition that held all of my data stored. My question is can the tool even attempt to recover an existing deleted then overwitten NTFS partition with a NTFS partition that has Windows File system placed over it? I aim to restore the previous NTFS partition and as much of the data that was there as possible, considering it is possible at all.

This is a very limited post, I intend to run the tool and post status if need by once a more professional or knowledgeable answer or bit of information is given in direct relation to the details of my specific case. If this info negates to state something needed in order to make a qualified accurate determination, please let me know what more you will need to know, and I'll get right back to you. Thank you very much for your time, help attempt, and dedication (if you are a contributing part of this free site, forum, or software! I appreciate it!

Warmest Regards,
-iXLR8

If TestDisk, Analyse, Quick Search, Deeper Search... failed to list your old partition and/or TestDisk failed to list the files from this old partition, you can always use PhotoRec to recover your data.
