How to determine correct boundaries, type and block size

Hi!

Really appreciate your help!
I have been trying to recover the partition of the external HDD (1TB) formatted by mistake (wrong disk chosen) as HFS+ with Journal on OSX. Not 100% sure if the previous partition was NTFS or HFS+ (but more likely formatted for Mac).

Desperate times... another person tried carving the files (using a bunch of techniques) but most of the large files & videos were corrupt due to fragmentation.

Sadly (learned the hard way, don't know how much damage was done logically; the disk is ok physically), created an image of the original disk until this point to use it instead.

Then tried the steps to recover reformatted partitions (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/Data_Rec ... _partition) but got different options in TestDisk (SuperBlock instead of BackupBS and RebuildBS, etc). Tried copying the backup superblock, but did not work either.

Tried the step by step guide (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Step_By_Step) but the search and deep search displayed errors and several overlapping/overflowing HFS+ partitions that didn't list the files (p/list files option not available).

In some forums it mentions to force create a partition using the correct boundaries and type of the original partition, then delete the others.

How to determine the correct start/end points and partition type, hdd/filesystem block size (512, 1024, 4096...), geometry, etc. from the several found?

What steps are required to recover the partition (or at least working files comprising all fragments)?

Use TestDisk 7.1-WIP instead of an older version.
The best HFS+ partition candidate are listed with "HFS+ blocksize=4096 + Backup" (last line of the screen)
