Your current partition table contains a FAT32 LBA-partition (Linux Storage;
Current partition structure:

But Quick Search found your NTFS-Partition;
Results
* HPFS - NTFS 0 1 1 60800 254 63 976768002
NTFS, 500 GB / 465 GiB
Did you press p to list your data?
If you see an error message please let me know.
If your data were listed.
To get back to the previous screen press q for Quit.
If you've seen your data you can press enter to continue.
You'll be at the screen where you're able to write your partition into your partition table.

Something what I don't understand is, in your description, you mentioned that your disk went RAW and the unallocated.
What I don't understnad is, you have a FAT32-Partition in your partition table.
In case it'd be advisable to check your disk management console too.
Could you upload a screen?

Might be possible that the NTFS partition is a remnant, because it's an Intel and not a windows partition which are usually aligned on megabyte boundaries.
I have another idea to diagnose the bootsector of your wrong FAT32-partition (Linux Storage) as a NTFS-partition.
Because I'll exclude, that Linux formatted your NTFS-partition.
Start TestDisk, confirm at create a log with enter and select your affected disk.
Confirm at partition table type with enter also
Don't confirm at Analyse but Advanced.
Check the menu Type and press enter.
Check NTFS (in the middle column) and press enter.
Confirm at Boot.
Highlight Rebuild BS and hit Enter.
Rebuild your BS will be in progress.
Normally, it takes some minutes.
If it's finished, please post the infos or upload a screen.
If you see a menu List, please highlight it and press enter.
Please let us know, do you see your data or an error message.
To get back to the previous screen, easily press q for Quit.

Infos will follow.

im confused, both the NTFS and Fat32 partitions found are showing the same name (current name of Linux Stora) and both contain the same files, i.e. it hasn't found the exfat I am looking for.

is it worth noting that this is a raid 1 drive (i.e. mirrored) and I am trying to restore just one of them, presuming this wouldnt make a difference, can put both back into the usb enclosure if needed. (two 500gb drives =1.tbh raid but only 500gb showing..

RAID1 doesn't mean that you have a backup.
If you delete a file, you'll going to delete that file on your mirror also.
If you format a disk, you'll format your mirror too.
Might be worth to have a try to put it back into your enclosure and repeat your diagnose.

the thing is, i know the data is still there, just did a whole drive photorec ( didnt have enough space to do it all) there was films, music etc that were on the lost partition and they all played from start to finish fine, only issue was file names obviously.
