WD Again

#1 Post by Mickey100 »

I have a corrupt green caviar 2TB WD external HDD that has content on it which I use on multiple external Caddys (not sure if that caused the corruption)
Computer can see it on device manager but no Drive letter assigned. Ive tried many things to get the computer to assign a drive or just to recover the data.
Only when i use test disk does it 'see' the drive and after running it I get a [no partition found] even after the deep scan. It shows the correct size of drive and file usage and CHS 243199 - 255 - 63
Its asking we to add a new partition but I have no clue as to what cylinder, head, sector, (repeated twice) and type to put in?

Im pretty sure it was a NTFS and not FAT. What figures should I put in? and by pressing 'done' will it save it?
Help, many thanks in advance.

If you run PhotoRec, does it recover some of your files ?

I found Photorec a bit more difficult to use. I'd rather try and recover the partition/bootable area and thencopy off.
It keeps on saying read error? Could it be that its stuck on teh cylinder and I have to open up the disk?

Should I add a partition at this stage or do a back up for 1.8tb?
