Need to recover deleted partition on dynamic disk

#1 Post by mlazzarotto91 »

Hello,
I need your help to undelete a partition on a dynamic disk.
This is what happened: at work I have a 250GB SSD that I use for the OS and a 500GB HDD that I use to keep all of my backups.
In the morning I copied all of my files to the HDD because I wanted to reinstall Windows 10 on the SSD.
After I installed Windows, I went to Disk management and I saw that the HDD had 2 partition: the first of 100MB (I think that was not used) and a second of 450GB where I previously copied my data.
In order to get rid of the smaller partition I clicked with the right mouse button on the biggest partition and I selected "Extend volume", then I clicked Yes when Windows asked me to convert the disk from basic to dynamic. Windows did not extend the biggest partition, but it left both partition. So I tried to delete the 100MB partition, but Windows deleted both of them.

Now I can see no partitions on the disk, so I ran testdisk with the "Deep Search", but it's telling me that he can't recover that partition.
I'll attach some screenshoots.

Use 'p' to list the content of each partition. Using the arrow keys, set the partitions you want to keep to P(rimary).
On next screen, choose Write, confirm, Quit and restart your computer.

Thank you, I feel so stupid right now.
I choose the first (It's not essential, it's Dell utility) and the third (this one has my data). I choose write, but now I've got this error:

I rebooted the pc.
Now I can see some partitions, but the bigger one (the one with the data) is RAW.
Currently I am running another search with Testdisk.

EDIT
The quick search found 3 partition, none of them contains my data.
Actually running the deep search.
PS: when I opened testdisk I choose to run the search for the whole disk, should I run the search only for the E: partition?

EDIT2
Just finished the deeper scan.
Now I am copying the files from withing testdisk.

So, testdisk gave me error again when writing the partition to the disk, but I copied all of my data to another disk.
Since I copied 40GB of files, is there a way to check if some of those files are corrupted before formatting my HDD?
