Hi,
how long works a deeper scan on a 3 or 4 TB HD, (HFS+)
I have unfortunately the second HD which in the osx-finder suddenly is empty
I have already tried diskwarrier, and data rescue. Diskwarrier don't found anything. DataRescue saves files, but none can I open.
Now I run testdisk, and after 14h I have the following status, see attachment:
What can I do? Wait a few days?

Re: how long work a deeper scan on a 4TB HD
Your description of the problem is not clear, is the partition missing (no volume identified, so no files to list) or is the filesystem empty (no files) ?
If the partition is really missing, as a 4TB filesystem has already been listed, choose Stop, check the listed partition, if "+Backup" is listed on the last line of the screen, set this partition as P(rimary).
On next screen, choose Write, confirm, Quit
If the filesystem is empty, use PhotoRec. Note that you need 4TB on another disk to store the recovered files and it will be very long to sort all the files...

Re: how long work a deeper scan on a 4TB HD
Hi, tanks a lot. I would say the filesystem is empty, because the partition is there, but it shows no files.I would like to say again, I have never deleted anything, it suddenly became empty.
The analysis sector is only running for an hour, I want to let it run to completion. Should I really do nothing after the scan?
I think it is only the "file-index?" broken, is it so sensitive and there is no backup on the HD?
Can Photorec also create the directory tree? Will the files have at least the names?

There is no backup of the filenames.
PhotoRec will not find the original filenames.
