BOOT SECTOR MISSING

Good day from London

I am new to this but am methodically going through the step by step process to recover 1tb of photos data from my WD external drive..

As per the great guide, So far I have analysed the drive and even with deep analysis it seems there is no partition...

Next I looked for a ntfs boot selector and the outcome. It cannot read Sector..

Next I looked for a back up boot sector. Once again it cannot read..

it indicates the following Sectors are identical. A valid NTFS boot sector must be present i order to access any data even if the partition is not bootable.

I have tried both TEST DISK WIN64 AND 32

What do i do now please ?

Thank You every one

Try PhotoRec 7.1-WIP from an administrator account.
If it sill doesn't work, clone your disk to a new empty using ddrescue and try again photorec but this time on the clone. See https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf for more information.

Good Evening Christophe,

Thank you so much for helping me on this-,please forgive me if I am asking simple questions-it really is a totally new process for me...

What is PhotoRec 7.1-WIP please is this the 64 bit version ?

I will buy a new drive tomorrow if it doesn't work... Actually I only have around 44ogb on my laptop drive so should I wait until tomorrow when I buy?

Should I refer to your link on how to clone or is it easy ?..

Thank you so much

Stephen Knott

There are 32-bit and 64-bits versions of PhotoRec 7.1-WIP. You can use either one.

Good day Christophe !

Following on from my attempt to recover my photo data from a WD external drive, I tried Photo Rec but it found nothing....

So to Plan B...clone the drive to a new external drive using DD reader as you recommend..

Now to my question, how will this really work if nothing can be found so far / After all it is only a copy is it not ?

Thank you very much for your time !

Kind regards Stephen Knott
