Unsure how to proceed after Deeper Scan

#1 Post by kate »

Hello,

First time Testdisk user here and could use some help. :)

My laptop's 1 TB HD malfunctioned last week, so I hooked it up to another laptop and it showed up as RAW, asking to be formatted. I hit cancel and ran Testdisk.
Initial scan shows 3 Partitions? - one * and two P. The Deeper scan shows 6 - all D. While I was able to see some files listed on initial results, on the deeper scan I can only see files listed under the first one (system), all others say "can't open filesystem. Filesystem seems damaged."

I've read several tutorials and examples, but I'm afraid to proceed as I don't understand what is damaged and what needs to be done. I would, if possible, like to restore the HD to functionality or at least be able to retrieve some files. I have the log file, but also screenshots if needed.

Please advise, thank you!!!
Kate

Edit: tried to add attachment and drag/drop testdisk.log file, but says invalid file extension?

Try TestDisk, Advanced, Boot, RebuildBS, List.
If you can see your files, choose Write, confirm, Quit and restart your computer.

If it doesn't work, copy and paste the testdisk.log file content (do not try to attach the file itself).
