#1 Post by blackyjack »

How to skip to sector X,Y? I tried to locate it in photorec.ses, but I can identify only the ending sector number.

I work with HDD in very bad shape, the whole recovery is about one week time and I already have the first half recovered, so I would like to skip it (option to continue doesn't help me, there was some change of other discs in computer, so it started to continue on another hdd)

Thank you

If the disk contains bad sectors, it's better to work on a clone, see ddrescue in https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf
If the new disk doesn't have the same device name (ie. /dev/sdc instead of /dev/sdb), you can edit the photorec.ses file with a text editor (wordpad or notepadd++ under Windows, vim under Linux - remember to backup the original file first) and modify the device name if necessary. When you restart PhotoRec, resume the recovery.
