Empty partition in TestDisk while it is recoverable using photorec

#1 Post by PhiErWall »

Hello
i have accidentally erased my full disk while installing linux mint
it consisted of 3 partitions + the file system partition
i tried recovering them using TestDisk deep search
All of the partitions were found with their sizes, but only two partitions were showing their files when i press P
while the file system is damaged and i think it has been overwritten , the other - its name was drive two - appears empty in testdisk when i press P

by pressing p

now my question is : if i change the characteristic of the two fine partition to primary partition instead of deleted then write them , will it overwrite the unchanged deleted partition (drive two) or not ?
if it won't . can i use photorec after that to recover files from the deleted (drive two)

thanks alot

You have to select all the partitions to keep or recover.
You can manually add (press 'a' key) a partition using the empty space between 2 partitions and use PhotoRec on this partition.
