Recovering data from FAT32 external drive replaced by MacOS partition

#1 Post by prxone »

Hi,
I have a 2TB external drive (fat32, used on macbook pro) which had approx 1.2TB of data (music, videos, pics), this was accidentally partitioned using Disk Utility (Mac), 2 partitions were created (1.25TB + 750GB). When plugged into the macbook the data is no longer visible.

Wondering if TestDisk can be used to recover the data, if anyone has gone through this and is able to guide me through the process.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Ash.

Does TestDisk find the FAT32 partition during Analyse, Quick Search or Deeper Search ?
If it's not the case, try PhotoRec to recover your data, in Options, enable the Expert mode, when asked, use a blocksize of 512 bytes, use the default options otherwise.
