Recover Ext Win 10 Drive formatted as EXT4

#1 Post by lovelyjubbly »

Hi everyone,

I've got a 2 TB external USB drive that I used for storing stuff, like Files, Music, Videos etc all on a Win 10 System.

I thought I needed the drive for a Synology backup in an emergency. So I formatted it as an Ext4 whilst connected to a Synology.

In the end I didn't need it for the Synology.

Can I use TestDisk to get all the files and directories back?

Or would PhotoRec be best?

It's not the end of the world if I can't, but it's good practice for when I really need the information :)

Cheers.

You can use testdisk to recover your NTFS partition and next photorec to recover the files from this partition if windows is unable to list them.
Read https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf for details on to use them.
