Help with partition recovery in Fedora Linux

#1 Post by rhob242 »

I need to recover a partition on an a 4TB external HDD. What happened is, I was using fedora media writer and it detected my external HDD as a thumb drive for some reason. I would never think that would happen so at the drop down menu in the media writer I failed to change detected drives and my external was selected by default. I proceeded to write the OS image before I realized It actually had my external HDD selected and not my thumb drive. I canceled immediately, but it was too late and now I am missing the 4TB partition and all data

I am trying to use testdisk to recover the partition but have never used it before. Testdisk detected partition as "None" so I went with that. I didn't see my old 4TB partition and it started doing some kind of analysis that was taking a very long time but it stalled at 9%. I have no clue what any of this below really means.

Disk /dev/sdf - 4000 GB / 3725 GiB - CHS 486397 255 63
Analyse cylinder 47206/486396: 09%
check_FAT: Unusual number of reserved sectors 4 (FAT), should be 1.
check_FAT: Unusual media descriptor (0xf8!=0xf0)
Warning: number of heads/cylinder mismatches 64 (FAT) != 255 (HD)
Warning: number of sectors per track mismatches 32 (FAT) != 63 (HD)
FAT12 6 133 4 7 84 29 13004 [ANACONDA]
HFS+ 7 84 30 9 20 11 28080

Any help figuring this out would be great. in summary. I want to recover the partition with my 4TB of data on it.
