Used TestDisk and now I can't get in to Windows

#1 Post by Promethieus »

Ok let me start from the very beginning. First off, I am horrible with technical stuff on the computer and because of that I am feeling pretty dumb right now because I tried to use TestDisk without knowing fully what it means or does. My goal was to recover files I had on an unallocated hard drive in my computer. When I upgraded from Vista about a year ago I made it so my computer doesn't use my old hard drive (I got a new one, 1tb Western Digital). I didn't need any of the files on it at the time so I didn't think anything of it. I need the files now but that's not the main issue I am having. Well so I ran TestDisk in the cmd prompt and clicked some stuff I thought was taking me in the right direction. I think it was a deep scan I did on one of my hard drives and then 4 hours later when it completed it told me I needed to reboot and to press y/n to confirm. I confirmed, turned my computer back on and it gave me an error 0xc000000f or something and said that there was an error booting. So I got my windows 7 installation disk, booted off that, tried to repair, it repaired, it restarted and now it's just bringing me to a "system recovery options" page every hard drive I boot off of.

Ok I got back in to Windows by doing a repair startup and then did a recovery so I am back on to Windows now. No problem. Now, back to my original goal. How do I get my files off my unallocated hard drive? Can I do that with TestDisk?

Unallocated only means there is no partition table.
You can try to find your partitions useing testdisk including data and write it back to your partition table.
But the first thing you should do meigfht be a diagnose.
I would need infos from TestDisk / Analyse and Quick Search.
Analyse ist your current partition table and Quick Search provides first results.
If a partition ist found, you can mark it and press pe to have a try to list your files.
If your files are listed you can rovover your partition and data.
If Quick Search doesn't provide any result please run Deeoer Search.
It's an additional search looking for partitions about the backup of the boot sector.
