Tons of trouble with RAW partition

#1 Post by Chon231 »

Hello,

I've been working for a few hours trying to figure out how I can save some old data from a very difficult HDD. The largest partition with all the data is reading as RAW format and I'm unsure if it's showing up in testdisk because whenever I run Analyse>Quick Search, Deep(er) Scan, or even PhotoRec they all freeze at 5%. If I stop quick search before it freezes it does show me the other random partitions that are floating around but not the RAW partition. I don't need to save the entire drive but getting as much data as possible from it would be amazing. Is there any reason why they would freeze like that? I will gladly provide screenshots of any steps I'm taking if anyone thinks they may be able to assist.

Thanks!!!

Clone your disk to a new empty disk using ddrescue from a Linux LiveUSB as described in https://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.pdf
Once it's done, remove the original disk and try to access your data from the clone.
Good luck
