No pending sectors, no reallocated sectors,

but high values for the following three attributes:

Code: Select all

Vendor Specific SMART Attributes with Thresholds:
ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE
1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x000f 075 064 006 Pre-fail Always - 28757856
...
7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x000f 071 060 030 Pre-fail Always - 43078838933
...
195 Hardware_ECC_Recovered 0x001a 075 064 000 Old_age Always - 28757856
The raw read error rate on my Hitachi 120GB drive is zero. So is the seek error rate as well.
My drive does not show the attribut 195.

It looks like there is something wrong, hardware-related.
Please try to duplicate the drive using ddrescue.

Is it ok if I use TestDisk for creating an image of the HDD?
Because I am not familiar with ddrescue.

You can try, but Testdisk has not created specifically with broken discs in mind like ddrescue.
Once dammaged hardware is a possible explanation of failure I prefer to duplicate the drive in question.
This is to reduce the chance of getting in a situation where you are forced to buy expensive professional help.

Dear recuperation, I Understood.
I see that ddrescue is a linux based software, and I use windows. Is there any windows alternative for ddrescue?
Anyway I could do an image of the entire HDD using getdataback.
What should be the steps after the image creation?

I don't know.

I know Getdataback but I don't know how error-tolerant it is.

After testdisk not being able to list the files, running photorec would be the next step.
If that fails you should seek professional assistance.

What suprises me is the large number of (interface?) errors but no unreadable sectors.
You might rerun smartctl after having run photorec as its reading all the sectors.
Unreadable sectors should increase the "pending sectors" count.
